The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is dedicated to pushing government technology forward to ensure that our systems can scale to future needs and deliver on the promise of Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and other emerging technology. The Office facilitates citywide coordination and collaboration on technology issues, serves as a catalyst for and advises agencies on emerging technology, and interacts with the wider New York City technology ecosystem. The Office is looking for an experienced, creative Senior Product Manager to define and lead the development of innovative, Smart City software and services. The Senior Product Manager will take leading Smart City and emerging technology concepts from around the world and translate them into specific, workable products to meet the needs of the City of New York and New Yorkers. In designing and shaping these new products, the Senior Product Manager will work closely with stakeholders such as City agencies, the private sector, civic technologists, and the general public. The successful candidate will serve as a Senior Product Manager, reporting to the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).Responsibilities will include: ? Conceptualizing, defining, designing, and managing the development of new smart city and other emerging technology products to provide exceptional, frictionless customer experience cross-product and cross-platform;? Create and execute against a strategic product plan and roadmap to optimize customer relevance and usability and minimize downstream impact;? Liaison with other city agencies and vendors to ensure the coordinated release of IoT technology that meets City standards;? Serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader to other Mayoral Offices and City Agencies on cutting-edge product design and development;? Stay abreast of emerging Smart City technologies and how they can be applied to the City of New York;? Contribute expertise and support for other special initiatives as assigned.The position?s responsibilities include commitment to and compliance with the City?s EEO policy.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of full-time paid experience acquired within the last fifteen years, of supervisory or administrative experience including handling of business promotion or urban economic problems, at least 2 years of which must have been in a managerial or executive capacity with primary focus on business promotion or urban economic planning; or 2. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However all candidates must have 2 years of managerial or executive experience as described in “1” above. Appropriate graduate study in an accredited college or university may be substituted for the general experience on a year-for-year basis. All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
The successful candidate should possess the following: ? Expertise in product design and management experience, preferably at a customer-focused organization or company in the devices domain (hardware or software);? Demonstrated ability to quickly understand the strategic business objectives of various organizations and translate a high-level vision into tangible products and outcomes that delight customers;? Proven success at juggling multiple, simultaneous, and complex technology products and services;? Track record of thinking big (visionary) and delivering on that vision with new technology products from start to finish; Knowledge and experience working in the Smart City space with IoT, blockchain, and other emerging technologies; Ability to communicate complex technical issues simply and convincingly to a wide range of audiences;? Strong influencing skills, capable of inspiring enthusiasm and driving consensus at all levels while maintaining effective working relationships with diverse sets of partners within the smart city, civic, and government communities;? Self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail and organization;
